Speed vs. Elevation

  • We need to get you to adopt a new nickname.. how about "studworm"? I see you had trouble finding the return entrance to Waterdog.. it's a bit tricky (I only knew it because Jim had shown me it the previous weekend!)

Hahaha...I'm still the "mudworm" -- noticed how slow I was on the ride? I had Jim's "course" on my Edge 305. The "entrance" he took was definitely not obvious from the street. After asking people and went in through the proper entrance (top of Rambler) and when my track finally merged back with his course, I saw that very faint path coming down from the side of a house. I think for a published route, the proper entrance should be suggested to minimize our impact and plus, it is not that far down the road.

  • Aaah but you weren't that slow at all - we (ukbloke and I) averaged 9.8 mph for the whole ride without Purisima Creek - and that included some serious pacelining down CaƱada & Portola to Windy Hill (and a bit of a race down Kings Mtn :) I was thinking of doing the A loop solo at some point, just to see if a mere mortal could complete it.

The suggested entrance to Waterdog is a well used path, but not an official entrance, true.

  • I compared our segment times.. we were about the same on the Windy Hill climb and on others it looks like you were faster than me.. sandbagger!

Are you sure you compared it right? Having ridden with you and having seen your posted rides from time to time, I find that hard to believe. Something wrong with your algorithm, Patrick!

  • You made me go break it down while waiting for the Sharks game to start tonight :)

I did beat you up Windy Hill but only by 10 secs! You beat me up Grizzy Flats by about a minute! We were almost dead even for the Ridge Trail climb after Horseshoe Lake.

I did beat you by a long way on most of the road segments, but that's unfair was I was drafting for most of it. Oh, except Kings Mtn - I was chasing ukbloke and he was hammering it!

We were so even on the climbs that it would have been great if you were there on the day - I would have had company at the back of the A group!

  • Saw your ride in the "Popular Activities" list... very impressive. Great job!!

Thanks Pete! I find it funny that this ride made the "Popular" Activities list at one point. I normally associate "popular" with big crowds. :)

  • My fault it is "popular" - so impressed I couldn't shut up :)
