Speed vs. Elevation

Last canter before the 100 mile at Git R Done, trailer over to our Birdtail ranch where as you can see we have a 10 climb. Forgot the heart monitor on the kitchen table, so no heart rate data. Tried to keep a 14 to 15 mph canter on the uphills and a trot on the little bit of downhill in the 1st 10 miles. Nash was breathing hard on the last mile, which is the steepest part, so I gave him a little walk brake, then doing negative splits was able to keep up a 14 to 16 mph canter on the return downhill, baring the steepest downhills where he trotted. At the trailer I removed his tack and with no water he was at 64 bpm at 2 min. and 48 bpm at 5 min and 36 bpm at 10 min. I think he's ready for the desert.
