Henry Coe (Charlie's pre-solstice ride)

Much Epicâ„¢ness on this ride. Was going to be just Charlie and me, but Erik and Mei decided to get out of bed at 4am and join us (yay!) This was easily my strongest ride at Coe. I cleaned Anza-Jackson for the first time! I also cleaned Domino Pond, Dog and Serpentine; no climb was too hard for me today (I wish every day could be like that!) I was OTB and mechanical free today but our small group suffered 2 flats, 2 bent derailleur hangers and a lost contact lens. Being close to the longest day of the year, this ride was at a very relaxed pace - we spent a lot of time sitting by creeks & waterfalls, on top of ridges and just enjoying being out in Coe. It was a close thing, but we made our 10K (don't believe the elevation gain stat here) so kittens were saved! We finished the ride with the trail lit only by moonlight - a difficult final descent in the near darkness but the perfect end to my longest day in Coe. Coe10Kplus.JPG

Patrick, you are a beast!!! Nice job clearing ALL the ride-able climbs. Very very impressive. Thanks for guilt-tripping me into joining the ride, which turned out to be one of my best. I forgot to ask you. Did you have to replace batteries in your GPS on the ride? I'm surprised that yours lasted all day.

If I knew guilt-trips worked so effectively I would have used them much more often :) Great fun riding with you and Erik, as always! Thanks for the compliment - that's easily the best I've ever felt on a mountain bike - hope it stays! One great feature of the Garmin 705 is improved battery life - the only time I've completed drained it was a hike to Half Dome in Yosemite where it died at about 11:15 hours. That comes at the price of lots of software bugs, unfortunately (it froze up on my in yesterday's ride). An external USB power battery would keep your 305 going on these long rides (at the price of extra weight :)

Thanks Lori! I can't believe what a huge improvement the big rides are making. If I had know their effect, I would have done it months ago :)
