Making It Count

Together we've moved $566,500.68

Henry Coe Hard COEre 100

We did it! The hardest physical (and mental) activity I've ever done. 100 miles and 20,000' climbing according to all our Garmins. It took 21:30 hours overall (start midnight, finish 9:30pm). 15:29 hrs actual riding time. We started with 37F temps, with it climbing up to mid-70s (although it felt much hotter than that). There were three of us, all riding at different paces and with different strengths, but regrouping frequently. I don't think it would have been possible without Dirk & Roy.. you guys are awesome! And a special thanks to Paul Nam and BrianW who hung around in the Hunting Hollow carpark, tailgating for at least 3 hours after trailwork, waiting to celebrate our ride with us! According to Paul, who would know, nobody has ever done this in Coe before! Full and lengthy recap here (me), here (Dirk) and here (Roy). P1020672.JPG From Henry Coe Hard COEre 100 - Nov 2010

Congratulations Patrick! I knew this was coming. This is quite an achievement. What's next?

Thanks Lori! We talked a bit on the ride about how we could possibly top this. We thought of 24-hours at Henry Coe although that's actually not that much longer than this ride! I still can't believe we actually did this. It took so much determination to fight through the tiredness, weariness and cold, especially after sunset.

Not to bash Leadville, but IMO that would be a piece of cake compared to this (except for the altitude perhaps). I have another Coe challenge in mind already (not a 24hr, though it could turn into that), I'm not sure I want to share it yet: it's something that I think I don't even want to attempt, and if I tell these guys, they will make me try it ;).

I know, that's a bad teaser, but I'm currently still delirious from this experience. I can't believe we pulled it off either.

Unbelievable! After this, the San Francisco ride on Sunday would have been a stroll in the Park. Dirk, Roy, and Patrick, you're awesome!!!

@Patrick: close but no cigar. I'm thinking of 29029 ft (an almost palindromic number, isn't that nice?). Second hint: the idea is inspired by an existing road ride/event, but those lazy guys do it over the course of two days ;). @Don: thanks! But adding the SF ride on Sunday would certainly have been a bridge too far. My 0.5 mile ride to the farmer's market yesterday was excruciating.
