The Franconian International School (FIS) educates students in an international environment according to high academic standards. FIS is committed to promoting international and intercultural experiences for its students in an atmosphere respectful of diverse cultures. Service is a major component of the FIS High School Programme for developing responsible global citizens and is a graduation requirement for every student.

The FIS supports Fundatia Inocenti in Bistrita County, Romania that sponsors the professional development and daily work of 22 Romanian staff and more than 100 volunteers serving hundreds of abandoned and at risk children and children with special needs. They improve the lives of post-institutionalized children by providing them and their foster families with counselling, training, physical therapy, advocacy, equipment, home visits and monthly support groups.

Each year our Grade 11 class carries out volunteer work in Bistrita on a series of projects including renovating the playgrounds, and painting and decorating and constructing storage areas. Our support for Fundatia Inocenti provides an opportunity for our students to improve the lives of others in a sustainable and meaningful way and acts as a tangible means of linking people to people.
